Music Link - Supporting teachers in the use of music to bridge language and cultural divisions in the classroom

<< Background >>The Music Link project was designed in response to the need for inclusive education strategies following the sudden arrival of Ukrainian refugees and other migrants in Europe. These individuals often face language barriers, cultural differences, and trauma that threaten their integration into educational settings. The applicant and partners identified a gap in tools and methodologies available to support teachers, trainers, and tutors (TTTs) in addressing these challenges. Research supports the use of music as a powerful, non-verbal medium for social connection, emotional expression, and cultural exchange. Thus, the project aimed to use the potential of music to bridge linguistic and cultural divides in classrooms. It also responded directly to Erasmus+ priorities: supporting education systems in the face of the Ukrainian crisis and promoting inclusion and diversity. For the applicant, a newcomer to Erasmus+, the project also represented an opportunity to develop experience and build capacity in transnational cooperation while contributing meaningful solutions to a pressing European issue​<< Objectives >>The project aimed to achieve five clear objectives: (1) Develop and deliver innovative music-based training to support TTTs in promoting intercultural dialogue and social inclusion. (2) Disseminate training outputs through an accessible online collaborative platform (OCP), extending reach beyond the immediate participants. (3) Create digital resources including a video and workbook to enable self-directed learning and support future scaling of the initiative. (4) Maximise project impact through a dissemination and evaluation strategy. (5) Build a strong transnational partnership and increase the capacity of all involved organisations. These goals directly support Erasmus+ priorities and aim to equip educators with practical tools to facilitate refugee inclusion, while creating sustainable, replicable resources for long-term impact​<< Implementation >>The project was implemented through 10 interconnected activities. It began with project management and three face-to-face partner meetings (in Spain and Ireland), which allowed for great complicity and fluidity in the work among the partners.Core implementation included the co-development of a music-based training programme and its testing with a stakeholder focus group. Training was delivered in a hybrid format to 30 TTTs (20 in Spain, 10 from Ireland), supported by an online collaborative platform developed by GEINNOVA.EurAV led the creation of a video documentary and digital workbook to support dissemination and to show work processes and how to use available resources.The project ended in a final multiplier event that showcased the methodology and promoted uptake among educators and stakeholders. Throughout, dissemination actions were implemented via traditional, online and social media, and all activities were aligned with a quality assurance and evaluation framework led by GEINNOVA<< Results >>The project delivered tangible results. It produced a validated one-day training workshop aimed at testing the training program draft with 6 TTTs. The second relevant result was the creation of a Training Program tested and delivered to a total of 30 TTTs, presencially in Spain. An online collaborative platform (OCP) was launched, housing all resources and enabling broader access. A 10-minute documentary and accompanying digital workbook were produced, providing practical tools for self-directed learning and future replication. Dissemination activities were implemented, with strong engagement through events and online channels. A final multiplier event served as both a dissemination milestone and a demonstration of impact. Importantly, the project strengthened the capacities of all three partners, especially the applicant as a first-time Erasmus+ coordinator, and laid the groundwork for a potential followup of the project. Qualitative and quantitative evaluations confirmed that the project objectives were successfully met, with positive levels of satisfaction among participants​.
