<< Background >>JUST project addressed the critical gaps in University/Business cooperation highlighted by the 2018 EU Commission report, on how limited interaction between HEIs and SMEs diminishes the relevance of educational programs, impacts employability and stifles impactful academic research.JUST project aims to develop innovative tools that facilitate sustainable collaboration between HEIs and SMEs, focusing on:1.Developing and delivering labor market-relevant curricula.2.Defining joint Work-Based Learning (WBL) arrangements.3.Enhancing collaboration in career guidance and placement.Our objectives align with several Erasmus+ priorities, including promoting interconnected HE systems, stimulating innovative learning practices, and addressing post-pandemic digital transformation. Key initiatives include adopting learning-outcome-based curricula, implementing flexible, digitally-enabled learning pathways, and integrating microcredentials to meet diverse learning needs.JUST projected aimed to establish a robust framework for ongoing collaboration which bridges educational and business sectors and enhances the digital readiness and resilience of educational systems, fostering a more innovative and inclusive educational landscape.<< Objectives >>By implementing the JUST project, we aimed to bridge the significant gap education and the world of work by fostering meaningful and productive collaboration between universities (HEIs) and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Our goals were to:1.Develop Relevant Curricula: that are informed by current labor market needs using microcredentials, addressing the mismatch between skills supply and demand. 2.Enhance Work-Based Learning (WBL) & Placement by establishing tools that facilitate effective HEI-SME interaction for joint teaching, development, and delivery of training.3.Facilitate Smooth Transition from Education to Employment: provide students with more relevant training to their professional development and career aspirations in SME settings, thereby shortening their transition from education to the workforce. 4.Overcome Collaboration Barriers: by addressing internal administrative barriers and biases within HEIs and SMEs, using innovative means to engage the private sector.The purpose was to develop new operational models that enhance the responsiveness of HEIs and SMEs to meet evolving skills demands, expand operational horizons through cross-border collaborations, and expose international expertise.<< Implementation >>We launched several digital initiatives to enhance HEI-SME collaboration:1.JUST OER Platform: digital library as the project's online identity, multilingual platform with news, trends, community of practice, project results, free access.2.Mapping of Collaboration Models: to identify effective SME-HEI collaboration models. Insights from this mapping guided the development of the JUST Cooperation Model, including collaboration guidelines and best practices.3.Hybrid Training Curriculum Development and Testing: development of a hybrid training curriculum involving professionals and consultants from the business world. The aim is to equip students with market-demanded skills and involves direct input from employers.4.Piloting and Validation: The curriculum was tested through an international piloting phase involving at least 535 students, using innovative delivery methods.5.Guidelines for Mainstreaming and Replicability: We produced guidelines to facilitate the project’s replication across the EU, aiming to inspire similar initiatives in other networks of HEIs and SMEs.These efforts aimed to create a framework for ongoing collaboration, enhancing educational and business sector integration and digital readiness.<< Results >>The JUST project achieved significant tangible and intangible results, as outlined in the sections devoted to results and multiplier events in this report. These results extended beyond formal outputs to significantly benefit direct and indirect stakeholders and participating organizations.Intangible Results:- Enhanced intermediation and collaboration between HEIs and SMEs in curriculum design, career guidance, placement, and Work Based Learning.- Increased SME participation in academic life through stronger collaboration with HEIs.- Greater relevance of higher education at a systemic level, impacting socio-economic roles within local communities.- Improved professional pathways for students engaging with the jointly developed and delivered JUST curriculum.- Boosted international competitiveness of partner organizations due to the networking effects of JUST, fostering collaborations across various domains, sectors, and countries.- Enhanced project management and inter-cultural communication skills among the teams of partner organizations.Tangible Results:- PR1: Development of the JUST OER Platform & Networking space (https://just-training.eu/partners.php).- PR2: Creation of the JUST Model for HEI-SME collaboration, including mapping and assessment of trends and dynamics (https://just-training.eu/model.php).- PR3: Launch of the JUST Multilanguage Tool-Kit, tested and validated with 30 HE students (https://just-training.eu/training.php).- PR4: Release of the JUST Implementation Suite and Green Paper (https://just-training.eu/suite.php).- Execution of various multiplier events to enhance impact and sustainability (7 Multiplier events organised in all partner countries with more than 290 participants).- Creation of comprehensive project management and dissemination plans.- Implementation of the JUST Quality Assurance Plan and the development of JUST Corporate Stationery for consistent internal and external communications.- Development of project-specific documents and templates, including internal monitoring reports, feedback questionnaires, and contracts/agreements.- Preparation of transnational meeting kits by the hosting organization, including all necessary documents for effective collaboration and feedback.- Compilation of transnational meeting reports and minutes.The JUST tools and curricula, available in five languages, are designed to produce a sustainable impact well beyond the project's formal timeline. With mainstreaming guidelines in place, other HEIs, SMEs, and intermediary associations can freely access and utilize JUST operational tools and training resources without any restrictions. This guarantees that JUST can be effectively expanded and consistently reproduced across different operational environments, further narrowing the divide between education and the workplace.
